Foreward from the Chairperson
Greetings, Lovely Tour-goers! We want to thank you for participating in this Neighborhood tradition. We hope that you spend the evening visiting with friends, family and even strangers and are inspired to make attending one of your own traditions!
This is our 23rd year! The tour was started by some Fresno High School Parents and Neighbors as a Fundraiser for Scholarships, Student Endeavors and Neighborhood Projects. Another goal of the original founders was to celebrate the charm and uniqueness of our vintage homes and promote the conservation of such an important part of Fresno.
Our Volunteers range: We have a School Board Trustee, FHS Teachers, administrators and staff, FHS Alumni, FHS Parents of past and present students, and a whole lot of lovely people who just live in love with the neighborhood. The young women and men you meet on the tour are Participants in FHS Senate and Leadership activities, led by a dedicated Teacher and Coordinator of the FHS International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. The FHS Band and Choral Teachers, parents and students pitch in to provide some ambiance. Our Hostess puts together a great refreshment table every year so you can snack and warm up your hands with a cuppa. And most of all, the homeowners allow us to borrow their homes for an evening (and spend months preparing for it) so we all can peek into history for a bit. It takes a village to pull it off! We hope you enjoy it.
The committee still has the same goals as it did 23 years ago, and it’s a great honor for me to continue to highlight our corner of Fresno.
I write this as we, but the rest is a me. This undertaking is near and dear to my heart. I moved to Fresno for college because I had family here in this neighborhood. That family, my Aunt and Uncle, were one of 4 the Founding couples. The committee still has the same goals as it did 23 years ago, and it’s a great honor for me to continue to highlight our corner of Fresno. All the people you meet on tour night are the best, and I want to say a public Thank You to them for all that they do.
And last You! We know we have very loyal patrons! We thank you for coming year after year, for bringing your family and friends, for making us a part of your holiday season. I’ll be wandering (running) around the night of the tour. Hopefully I’ll get to talk with you.
